Art students tried their hands at making adobe bricks today! We used recycled box lids and DIY forms as our brick molds, and they got VERY hands-on mixing the adobe and setting it in the forms. This was a fun (and messy!) way to bring our adobe architecture unit to life!

This week in art, students learned about adobe architecture and the lines and shapes found in many adobe buildings. We looked at pictures of local buildings around San Luis, Costilla County, and in northern New Mexico, and students drew adobe building landscapes using the lines and shapes we've been studying. 2nd and 3rd grade were also able to use classroom supplies to try and recreate an adobe-style building in groups for a fun STEAM project! Tomorrow we will try our hands at mixing up our own adobe and making bricks. Students loved seeing pictures of places they see every day in our community, and many shared stories about the adobe buildings on their own family properties! Please enjoy a small peek into how talented our students are!

Due to a recent increase in positive COVID-19 cases within our school and community, we are taking proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved. Therefore, with guidance from Costilla County Public Health, our school will be closed on Friday, August 29, 2024. We are utilizing the long weekend to be proactive and thoroughly disinfect the school facilities. This precaution is being taken to ensure a safe environment upon our return on September 3, 2024. Additionally, all sports practices scheduled for August 29th are canceled. Student-athletes will be allowed to participate in the events taking place this weekend. Please refer to the "How sick is too sick" guidance that is available on the website and that is being sent home with every student this afternoon. If you test positive for COVID, please refrain from attending school for 5 days. If you have questions or are interested in being tested for COVID, contact Costilla County Public Health. They are here to assist our community. Further updates will be provided as necessary. For any immediate questions or concerns, please, contact the school.
